.Wither is a collaboration between Thanos Liberopoulos and Giorgos Grammozis, moving in a non-binding prog/art rock, that combines electro influences, with heavy riffology into groovy head banging explosions and fragile emotional ballads. Wither from Athens, Greece, born from the ashes of the progressive metal Something Sacred and we have to go back in 2004 when the idea of forming a prog metal band has matured in the mind of Thanos Liberopoulos and George Grammozis. Thanos has already met Giorgos Grammozis and they worked together in an instrumental project. Later after failing form a full band they worked with Panos “Fu” Belesiotis in an unplugged project named Something Sacred, playing covers as well some of their songs. After the success of this project, they invited Vissos Sarris, a charismatic drummer that worked with Thanos Liberopoulos and Panos “Fu” Belesiotis in Glasspearl (a hard/prog rock band from Corinth) and Giorgos as a bass player. The calendar show November of 2005 and after live appearances in clubs like Aeras and Sirmos in Athens and festivals in Corinth and Kiato, the band was ready to go in the studio and work on four songs composed by Thanos and Giorgos. This songs and almost a year of hard work in rehearsals and recordings at Thanos project studio and at Encore studios with engineers Labis Kastanas and Aggelos “AFL” Liagkos they came out with Superstitious EP. Their job has surprised the underground prog-metal scene but the band was not very pleased with the result. All these made the band unstable and at the summer of 2006, the band split out. Later, the autumn they decide to try to work again together and with Giannis Pasakalidis arrival on bass, (Giorgos Pavlou became second guitarist, which was his natural position) and the contact of some Greek labels with the band and the proposition of contract for a full-length record the things seemed to take their way. But in this time the balance was fragile and some members was not in situation to follow the demands of singing a contract and work intensively and the final strike was the military that made the drummer Vissos Sarris to absent from the band for almost a year. This was the end of Something Sacred and Thanos Liberopoulos with Giorgos Grammozis that now was more influenced from bands like Porcupine tree, OSI, Jeff Buckley and the prog-rock of the 70’s like King Crimson and Rush, than Dream Theater and Pain of salvation, they was keep arranging songs and on the arrival of 2007 they found themselves under the name Wither with up to 23 songs for 2 records pre-produced and ready to go in the studio to finish this ambitious project along with bassist Giannis Pasakalidis and Vissos Sarris as drummer.
