Johnnie and Weeds grew up together in New York City. Johnnie was a stoner. Weeds, well.....he was taking accordion lessons. Then, after high-school, Weeds looked cooler, so Johnnie asked him to form a band.....being that he knew the accordian and all. They met Chris through a mutual friend and they liked the way he played his hihats.........so Johnnie asked him to join the band.......being that he wasn't an alcoholic.YEAR by YEAR History......1984-1985-Star Star forms in Los Angeles. They go to New York where they record their first songs, then return to Los Angeles.1986-1987-Star Star plays it’s first shows in Los Angeles. 1988-The band returns to New York City. 1989-They release “Go Go Girls in Love” on a small New York label. It serves as a demo. 1990-Star Star tours in the United States.1991-The band signs with Roadrunner Records. Together with veteran producers Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go Go’s), Earle Mankey (Concrete Blonde, The Runaways), Neil Kernon (Queen, Judas Priest) and Phil Greene the album is recorded in slightly over a nine month period of time at various studios in New York City, Los Angeles and New England. 1992-Star Star tours in the United States before the release of the album. Late in the year “The Love Drag Years” is released and is greeted with unprecedented reviews. They go through Europe on a promo tour. More great reviews follow, even from the tougher European press. 1993-There is no "Love Drag Years" tour of the United States. The Band plays sporadically around the country. 1994-They play about five shows and record some new songs. Johnnie goes to Los Angeles to spend time writing, but spends the Winter in Paris "just hanging out". 1995-On Dec 27 Johnnie is involved in a very serious automobile accident in Athens, Greece. Everything stops. 1996-Johnnie undergoes two operations as a result of the accident. Star Star makes plans to tour Europe, having secured 14 dates. Johnnie can't do it. 1997-Guitarist Jay Hening commits suicide in Virginia. Weeds now staying in New Orleans returns to Europe. 1998-Johnnie undergoes a third surgery.1999-Drummer Deon passes away due to cancer.2000-Star Star begin writing and recording new songs. 2001-The band, is now spending most of their time in Athens as Johnnie is still recovering.2002-Star Star continues refining their live show and writing new songs.2003-The band, now generating alot of interest again, record two live shows, which along with three television appearances in Europe and the U.S. keep the band busy during the Spring. An EP with a new single and live track is scheduled to hit the streets on December 22th, but is delayed til 2004.2004-Star Star record a string of live shows with new drummer Chris Jones. The EP release is cancelled as the band begins recording a full length album instead....that's finally official....finally!2005-Determined to finally capture the live feeling of the band, the new CD tentavely titled "The Rock Trash Au Go Go Show" is a presentation of Star Star's live show put together from a series of live recordings. The expected release date is May 2005.
